Le Lac Gelé — Gobelins
Ugh I love this. It’s a short animation for the film festival, Annecy. I love how there are no words, yet it holds such strong meaning.
The old man is guided to a cold dark lake holding a lit staff and is guided by a black jackal-like figure. I think the jackal is supposed to be an reference to Anubis which is a symbol or mummification and death. So when its guides the man to the lake, he is guiding the man to death. The fire or the staff represent to man’s life and the staffs surrounding him represent the many people who have died before him. The bright fish creature represent ‘the light’ or what is after death—the unknown. As the man thrusts the staff into the ice, he shows fear of that unknown, but also (and more importantly) acceptance of it. He acknowledges the uncertainty of death, but accepts it anyway. As he walks toward the light, the flame that represents his mortal life goes out. And he disappears into the cold unknown, leaving only the staff as a mark, just like all the others before him.

Found this old gem on my computer while saving a Japanese Project. Colton and I were totally rocking the scout face. I really miss those good old days. It’s crazy to see how much we’ve grown in the years we’ve known each other.
We need to go on another camping trip Colton! We still have a heck of a lot of national parks to backpack through. We’d better get busy!
Not gonna lie, I really miss those days too! I think about all the adventures we’ve had and I get this crazy nostalgia! But the best part is we’ve both got legs and a world to explore!! So yes, we do have to get busy! There are far too many trails, trodden and not, that have yet to be acquainted with the soles of our boots!!

Inspired by a certain someone’s dance solo. It was truly beautiful and amazingly powerful. I’m still in awe. Great job, Yana! You are incredible.

Thank you! But the thing is, I never feel poetic. Anything I’ve ever written has just been an attempt at how I think or feel. But I’ve yet to succeed completely. I’ve yet to express fully and undoubtably what was on my mind. It’s a bit of a curse, really. It’s like my feelings are in a bottle, and I can’t pour them out onto a page carefully enough to avoid this messy glugging of thoughts.
But it makes me happy that you appreciate the mindless prattle I create :) So thank you again!

King And Lionheart by Of Monsters and Men
This is beautiful. I say that about a lot of things, but this truly is. Beauty is one of those things that’s not always happy or pretty per se, but powerful.
When something is truly beautiful, it isn’t just attractive; it evokes emotion. It brings upon you an experience that isn’t just feeling. It’s an impression.

I really like this quote. Being lost is such a common feeling with me, and I like how it doesn’t feel like bad thing in this quote. I don’t know. I also really like ocean and water imagery…

I just underwent a religious experience involving a bug.
So here I was, sitting on my bed, when this flying ant-like insect flew onto my nightstand. And just as I went to grab it and toss it out the window, it looked up at me. It was probably complete coincidence, but it looked up at me, straight in the eye and didn’t break it’s gaze. I sat there for a good four seconds intimately sharing eye-contact with this insect. For some reason, during that time, I was flooded with thoughts of what this bug is thinking. It was asking me why was going to grab it and potentially kill it? It was asking me what makes my life so much more valuable than its? I didn’t used to have any qualms about hurting bug that are in my room, but during this four seconds, I got thinking that, it’s in my room, but my room is just a place of existence. The bug and I are both just beings of existence on this planet. What gives me the right to potentially kill it? The bug may not speak my language, nor I, its… But we both speak the language of existence. I am here—alive. And so is the bug. We are equals. I may be bigger and more “complex”, but we are both equally alive and equally existing.
